Senbazuru - 1000 Cranes For A Wish To Come True

Senbazuru 千羽鶴 refers to one thousand 千 (sen) cranes 鶴 (tsuru) made of paper and attached together on strings. According to an ancient Japanese legend, those who fold a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish. It is said that a crane lives one thousand years. Such groups of paper cranes are often displayed in various places, including temples, as prayers for peace and health. The cranes are usually assembled on 25 strings of 40 cranes each.

Yasunari Kawabata wrote a novel called Senbazuru - "Thousand Cranes" - in 1952.
