The Great Buddha at Koutoku-in in Kamakura

The famous Daibutsu is a famous icon of Japan, a bronze statue of Amida Buddha at the Buddhist temple called Koutoku-in of the Joudo-shuu sect.  It dates from the mid-13th century. It is about 13 m tall and weighs approximately 93 tonnes. Rudyard Kipling visited the place and wrote about it in his novel "Kim."
